Rope Bridge
Written on 8:00 am by Vja Students
Four people need to cross a rope bridge to get back to their camp at night. Unfortunately, they only have one flashlight and it only has enough light left for seventeen minutes. The bridge is too dangerous to cross without a flashlight, and it’s only strong enough to support two people at any given time. Each of the people walks at a different speed. One can cross the bridge in 1 minute, another in 2 minutes, the third in 5 minutes, and the fourth one takes 10 minutes to cross. How do the people make it across in 17 minutes?

Solution:
First
Person of speed 1 min come back
Time =1min
The person of speed 5 min cross the bridge with person of 10 min speed
Time=10 min
Person of speed 2 min come back
Time=2min
The person of speed 1 min cross the bridge with person of 2min speed time=2min
Finally all of them crossed the rope bridge
Total time =2+1+10+2+2=17

first people who takes 2 min and 1 min cross(time taken=2 min) the bridge then 1 min goes back(time taken=2+1=3 min) and 5 min and 10 min cross the bridge(3+10=13 min) then 2 min people come back(time taken=13+2=15 min)and then both 2 min and 1 min people cross the bridge successfully (time taken 15+2=17 min)
