No. of animals is 11 more than the no. of birds. If the no.of birds were the no. of animals and no. of animals were the no. of birds( ie., interchanging no.s of animals and birds.), the total no. of legs get reduced by one fifth(1/5). How many no. of birds and animals were there?

ans: birds:11,animals:22

    Suppose:

    x: The total number of animals
    y: The total number of birds

    Then,
    (x-y) = 11
    and also,
    (4x+2y)-(2x+4y)= (1/5)(4x+2y)

    By solving this equation, x = 2y

    But, x-y = 11


    Hence, x = 22
    and, y = 11

    Is this a puzzle or 7th standard algebra question?

    Why these days we are not seeing new puzzle everyday? Also please increase the quality of puzzles. Anyways you are doing a good job to keep our brains active!
